This one is reminiscent of Alvin Robinson's Down Home Girl.
Times have changed, what chance would this have of getting an airing on the radio nowadays?
The Johnny Otis Show - Country Girl 1969
Update: Just found this review in the "4 **** Singles Reviews" section in the Feb. 8th 1969 issue of Record World:
Bouncy R/Ballad entry could go very far. Good party time sound to it.
Bouncy indeed! :)
Nice to see you back, Darcy, and thank you for the tunes!
ReplyDeleteI guess "Country Girl" proves you could rip off Lowell Fulson's "Tramp" in the late '60s without worrying about getting sued just like you could rip off the Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" and its "bounce" in the late '70s and early '80s.
